Opening in Kings Lynn in 1965, The Lampshop is one of the longest established independent decorative lighting shops in the UK.
The Lampshop was first established by the Herbert family in Hammersmith London, in the mid 50s. Mr Herbert also managed and produced hand-turned wooden light fittings from his own manufacturing site. [pic here would be good if you have one, in place of the pic to the right!!]
The family moved to Norfolk in 1965, opening a shop on the corner of Portland St and Railway Rd. The shop has stayed in this location ever since, with its distinctive bow front windows and bull’s eye glass. David inherited the Lampshop from his parents in the late 70s, having served his first customer at the age of 15!!
David says ” Since taking over the shop, I have continually expanded our choice to encompass a huge selection of traditional and modern lighting, including our own exclusive range. The majority of lighting shown online is available in the shop – an “Aladdin’s cave” according to our many regular customers. We also offer bespoke lampshades, which allows customers the choice of fabric to create unique shades in most shapes and sizes. I also offer renovations and re-wiring of light fittings such as table lamps, chandeliers and wall lights – sadly a skill rapidly declining in today’s throw away society. ”
